About the role
Aga Khan University is hiring a Consultant Clinical Psychologist for the Brain and Mind Institute in Kenya. You will provide psychological support to caregivers of people living with dementia during a study.
What you'll do
- Facilitate post-module one-hour online discussion forums with care partners, 5 sessions for each of 4 cohorts.
- Facilitate 4 in-person education and support group meetings with care partners of people with dementia.
- Provide psychological support for participants during online and in-person discussion forums.
- Refer participants who express distress to further psychological support services.
- Provide first-line psychological support to caregivers who present with distress during sessions.
- Submit weekly summary reports on cohort engagement, sessions delivered, and distress cases managed.
- Support monitoring, evaluation, and ethics or safeguarding reporting related to caregiver wellbeing.
- Maintain a session calendar and ensure continuity of sessions across all cohorts for the study duration.
What you need
- Master’s degree in clinical psychology or a closely related psychology discipline.
- Registered or licensed Clinical Psychologist in Kenya.
- At least 2 years’ relevant experience in psychological support and group facilitation.
- Ability to identify distress, provide first-line psychological support, and make appropriate referrals.
- Strong communication, documentation, and safeguarding skills.
Nice to have
- Experience working with caregivers, older adults, or people affected by dementia.

The Institute supports a hub for scholarship exchange and action on mental health issues, as well as educational, clinical, and community-based programs. BMI’s research focuses on the context of today’s youth in Africa and South Asia, while our programmatic offerings address mental health related and brain health issues, including stigma and resiliency. A significant area of interest is the implementation of science-based programing in hospital and community settings that translate new discoveries into prevention and treatment programs.
Purpose of Assignment
The Study Clinical Psychologist will provide psychological support to caregivers of people living with dementia by facilitating online and in-person support sessions, identifying and referring participants experiencing distress, and supporting caregiver wellbeing throughout the study.
