About the role

National Oil Corporation of Kenya is recruiting a Chief Executive Officer. The CEO gives the Corporation strategic leadership and is responsible for its operations and performance. The role covers business growth and transformation, stakeholder relationships, corporate governance, and the effective and accountable use of resources. The CEO reports to the Board of Directors.

Key responsibilities

Provide strategic leadership and overall executive management so the Corporation achieves its mandate, strategic objectives and lasting value for shareholders and stakeholders.
Lead the formulation, implementation, monitoring and review of the corporate strategy, business plans, investment portfolio and growth initiatives, in line with the Board’s direction.
Drive sustainable financial performance through revenue growth, profitability, prudent cost management and efficient use of resources, while protecting the integrity of financial reporting and the Corporation’s assets.
Lead capital allocation, investment appraisal, financial planning and enterprise-wide financial risk management.
Ensure high standards of corporate governance, ethical leadership, risk management, internal controls and compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
Drive operational excellence, innovation, digital transformation and continuous improvement across operations and the value chain.
Build strong relationships with shareholders, Government, regulators, customers, development partners, investors and other stakeholders.
Serve as the Corporation’s principal spokesperson and promote its public image.
Lead organisational culture, talent management, succession planning, employee engagement and change management.
Champion environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles in operations, investments and decision-making.
Advise the Board on strategic, financial, operational, regulatory and governance matters, with timely and accurate reporting on performance and risk.
Keep up to date with markets and the industry so the Corporation can take advantage of new business and investment opportunities.
Ensure the annual budget, procurement plan, work plan and performance contract support the Corporation’s strategic objectives.
Get the most out of all the Corporation’s assets and ensure a positive return on investment and operating spending.
Ensure all policies, systems and operations comply with applicable laws, regulations and governance standards.

Qualifications and experience

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Energy Management, Marketing, Finance or a related field from a university recognised in Kenya.
At least 10 years’ working experience in a relevant field.
At least 5 years in a senior management position.
Meets the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
