About the role
Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi is hiring an Anaesthetic Assistant for the Operating Room/Theatre in Nairobi, Kenya. You will report to the Nursing Manager, OR/Theatre and support anaesthesia services.
What you'll do
- Set up, test and calibrate physiological monitors and equipment such as anaesthesia machines, airway devices, infusion devices, nerve stimulators, warming devices and bronchoscopes.
- Perform equipment checks as indicated and maintain checklists.
- Maintain cleanliness of anaesthetic equipment.
- Maintain a stock of drug and equipment supplies at anaesthesia workstations.
- Liaise with the Unit Manager and Biomedical Engineering on equipment failure.
- Participate in the operating theatre's infection control programme.
- Assist the anaesthesiologist before, during and after procedures.
- Arrange transportation of emergency blood samples to the lab and collection of blood products from the blood bank.
- Assist with transferring post-operative patients to PACU or Critical Care.
- Maintain a supplies inventory with the Nurse Manager, Theatre.
What you need
- Anaesthesia Assistant Course qualification.
- Registration and licensure with Kenya Health Professions Oversight Authority.
- Proficiency in computer operations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent customer service skills.
Nice to have
- Experience in the theatre.
